jack the caterpillar was found this morning among the raspberry bushes.  he (she?)  is a wolly bear caterpillar who will one day transform into a moth.  the seemingly scattered flight of a moth is a beautiful thing to behold- they follow a path of smell in which they pick a point in space that their senses send them to.  upon reaching the invisible point in space they recalculate the location of their final destination, pick a point part way between, and continue their flight… thus the beautiful dance through the nighttime.  i do hope that jack lives to see the days of moth flight- he has been quite patient with us today.
